Organizational Setting and Reporting
This position is located within the United Nations Integrated Office of the Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General, Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator (DSRSG/RC/HC) in Somalia. The incumbent will report to the Senior Development Coordination Officer, Head of the Resident Coordinator’s Office (RCO), and Strategic Planner.
Responsibilities
Key Duties:
- Strategic Planning and Coordination:
- Provides substantive support in strategic planning and coordination of UN Country Team (UNCT) partnerships aimed at achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
- Supports the implementation of the UN Partnership Strategy aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework.
- Partnership Development and Resource Mobilization:
- Guides and coordinates the UNCT’s strategic partnerships and resource mobilization for the Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework.
- Works closely with the RCO Economist and finance experts to promote initiatives supporting SDG financing.
- Advises on and implements locally tailored resource mobilization strategies.
- Engages in joint programming processes for pooled funds and other financial collaborations.
- Knowledge Management and Capacity Building:
- Manages knowledge related to partnerships and resource mobilization, staying updated on global development finance trends.
- Facilitates knowledge sharing and capacity development within the UN system regarding partnerships and financing for SDGs.
- Liaison and Advisory Services:
- Acts as a liaison with various UN entities at national, regional, and headquarters levels to define and promote valuable partnership opportunities.
- Provides recommendations on partnership and investment opportunities, ensuring compliance with UN regulations and procedures.
- Supports the Resident Coordinator in advising the Global Compact Local Networks or regional hubs, promoting business support for the SDGs.
Skills and Qualifications
Competencies:
- Professionalism: Demonstrated ability to apply theories and concepts of sustainable development. Proficient in research, data analysis, and management with a focus on results and meeting deadlines.
- Planning and Organizing: Effective at developing strategies, managing priorities, and planning resources with the ability to anticipate risks and adapt to changes.
- Communication: Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, tailored to match different audiences.
- Leadership: Proven leadership skills with the ability to inspire others, manage relationships, and handle conflicts diplomatically.
Education:
- Advanced university degree in Business or Public Administration, Sustainable Development, Social Sciences, Education, or a related field. A first-level university degree combined with additional qualifying experience may substitute for the advanced degree.
Work Experience:
- At least seven years of progressively responsible experience in strategic support to partnerships, project/program management, or development finance.
- Experience within the United Nations system and knowledge of UN processes and regulations related to partnerships is highly desirable.
Languages:
- Fluency in English is mandatory.
- Knowledge of Arabic is an advantage.
